Beek Week(end) Part 1 {town wide festival and the new Beekman 1802 Mercantile}{22}

I usually like to start off my posts with a nice little story.  Sometimes I like to pull you in with some interesting and often moving anecdote from my childhood and then hit you with my stunning photographic skills some pretty pictures.  For this post I considered telling you the amusing tale of how I first became aware of (and developed my soft spot for) the Beekman Boys.  It involves tooth extraction and prescription drugs. . . I subsequently decided that might not be the best story to tell – and so I’ve decided to just lay the pictures on you.  Really.  There are so many shots of my weekend in Sharon Springs that I want to share, I think I should just take you on the tour and say as little as possible.

Here you go!

We arrived in town and parked in the lot for the American Hotel.  The new Beekman Mercantile is directly across the street.  Here is our first view of this beautiful historic building that Josh and Brent renovated:

a crowd relaxes on the front stoop of the newly beautified building. . .

The building is really gorgeous.  This is really my kind of color scheme.  I’m in love.

gorgeous. . .

Snazzy signage lined the streets indicating the reason for the town-wide festivities.

There were so many vendors lining the street and green spaces along the way.  Food, jewelry, crafts, antiques, seedlings and vegetable plants were all available.  I could have done an entire post full of pictures of all the things on offer but I had to narrow down what I would show you somehow.  Here is a view of my favorite street vendor.  I didn’t pick up any of the “tinscicles” while I was there but I’m planning to order some from the Cherry Valley Tinsel Company.  And I just couldn’t get enough of watching this hand built machine the owner designed himself.  Honestly.  I was kind of mesmerized.  He fits in a flat piece of tin and when he pulls the saw handle it is twisted into a lovely spiral-y piece of tinsel.  I’ve got to have some for my tree!

Moving on. . .  I won’t pretend that we were not a little excited to see the places we’d seen on TV.  The American Hotel is hard to miss there on Main Street in Sharon Springs. It does not disappoint.  The building is stunning and immaculate.  Truly.  Like a picture postcard.  See?

Mr. Social Media and I put our names on the waiting list for a room at the American Hotel during the Harvest Festival in Sharon Springs this Fall.  Right.  It’s already fully booked.  Fingers crossed.  🙂  It looks like so much fun!

Next we moved on to the new Beekman 1802 Mercantile.  It was a really big part of what I made the trip for.  As I’ve already said, the building itself is beautiful and walking inside is like walking into a magazine spread.  I took a ton of pictures. . . I kind of expected to see some other folks taking pictures, too. . . mostly everyone else was actually shopping.  Fancy that. What really intrigues me are the food products made from locally sourced ingredients and the other handmade items.  Here you go. . .

I actually made my purchases at the end of the day on Sunday, but these photos were mostly taken during my first walk through of the store on Saturday afternoon.  Our tickets for the tour of the Beekman Farm were for 3:30 on Saturday and I didn’t want to haul my Mercantile Merchandise along while I met the goats.  After this photo op it was time to catch the shuttle bus and off we went to the farm!
